This man is mad. That is the only explanation for the crazy, chaotic and convoluted show I saw (excluding the minor technical fault which actually demonstrated how structured the show is under all the scattershot dialogue).

The show is based on Sam Simmons being in his early 30s and having no possessions or achievements to show for it. There are a multitude of props on stage, all of which are used during the show, but perhaps not in the way you would expect. Sam sings, dances and participates in a Sale of the Century style gameshow with an unknown announcer, interacts with the audience and generally goes wild and crazy. He also gets down to his pants and even, gasp, removes his hat during the show.

His comedic style is not going to suit everybody, but he does give a few opportunities early on for people to leave. Apparently in one part of the show he has been at the receiving end of fisticuffs from a disgruntled audience member, but then, this IS Edinburgh.

There are two large wall scrolls on the back of the stage which are meant to represent failings and successes, but the fail scroll developed into being stuff Sam doesn’t like after a while, as the success wall became cool stuff. Still, you get some fascinating and warped stories from both walls so no real complaint there.

So for a delightfully eccentric and warped show from a man who’s been dealt a short hand from the gene pool (the moustache doesn’t help, though), come and see this show. It will probably win an award or two if I’m any judge (well, I’m not, but I can vote, can’t I?).
