Laura Solon is an accomplished comedian who has had some award winning shows at past Edinburgh Fringes and this is a new show, consisting of Laura, an owl and a glass of water. The show starts off with Laura explaining that the concept of the show started as a combination of an Enid Blyton story and a Choose your own adventure, but the audience, when given the choice, proved their untrustworthiness and thus lost their power.
We are then thrown into the story of two people going to a small island to film a very special owl, an owl that is the subject of a number of conspiracies and plot twists. Laura moves through an extensive array of different characters during the story and there are some very perverted characters and some excellent insults that you might want to write down. Sadly the plot rather peters off and ends up in a bit of an anticlimax.
The audience were enjoying themselves and the house was full. A lot of the jokes were very funny and and there was a lot of the show that really brought out Laura’s talent for character creation, but I think there needed to be more to the show than just introducing a bunch of potentially fascinating characters only to find them gone after just a few lines.
