This is a solo show of song and chat (with a little magic) by Tammy Stone. Tammy is looking for a man and, if her songs are anything to go by, a man with a death-wish. I think the show could have been more appropriately titled ‘Black Widow’ or ‘Praying Mantis’ and the songs were about internet dating (ranking the sites according to skankiness), killing one’s lover, a lover who refused to go down on her even with the temptation of food, the joys of incest, more killing of partners, and looking for a partner to kill and eat. She also sang a homage to Russell Brand and I’ll say no more on that as he’s a gender based stereotype.

The banter between songs was also a bit creepy, as she was looking for a man in the audience using magic tricks and pointed questions. I was dragged up as part of a magic trick and she kept trying to distract me with her breasts (but I was too terrified to fall for that!). She sang quite nicely, played the guitar and piano well and the songs were well written. There were crumpets, but not to eat, a muffin as a prize and I brought my own coffee.
So an entertaining and scary cabaret show in a café, with a singer who is looking for love makes this an interesting choice but possible not for everyone (especially not for the kiddies, considering the subject matter). I did wonder if a man would get away with this if the roles were reversed?
