Tommy Little’s energetic opening for this show bodes well for the rest of the performance. And, indeed, this is a really good, solid hour of stand up.

Tommy tells us about his dating failures; lawn bowls parties; kidnapping fantasies; falling in love; and being the genesis for the idea of the ‘Little Cup’. He uses a pretty standard formula to structure this show, but there’s a reason why this formula endures. It works.
But I kept wondering what was missing from this show. Tommy get’s the audience on side with his easy self deprecation. Nothing he does misses its mark. Inflection, attitude, wording. Everything is delivered with complete assurance and optimum comedy construction. But there was just something missing.
Then, between review shows I dropped in on Tommy Dassalo’s show. There it was. The whip crack wording, the acidic rawness and the observation of minutia.
Tommy Little, by comparison, describes broadly funny things in a broadly funny way. His stories are fun and he is eminently genial. I was pleased and entertained by this show. But I wasn’t delighted.
However it is difficult to fault this show in and of itself. Tommy has real charisma and his show is funny on an easily likeable level. I doubt anyone would go and see Tommy Little and not be entertained and made happy by the experience.
