Wow. I never knew I could enjoy being abused and sworn at for an hour. Oh, and laugh my head off at the same time.

For anyone unfamiliar with Sam Simmons, let me tell you this: When I first saw him, it was amongst four other comedians in the Comedy Roadshow last year. After seeing over an hour of fairly un-edgy, mildly entertaining comedians, this man came onstage. And I have to tell you, he had me from the word “Fridge-cat”. It seemed like my peers were less open to his weird brand of comedy, but I myself was utterly breathless with his craziness, and his effort into the most random trivial ideas.
So. When I went to this show, I did not expect to be disappointed. And I was not. The man had me cracking up from start to finish. I was in fact quite tired by the end, I had to have a sit-down afterwards to get my strength back. He started with a little story about when he did a poo onstage and it only got better from there.
The show is based around Sam’s own life, and the stories of how he, and others, have failed. He told stories of Paul the Rock ‘n’ roller, Glen the Ant, Russell The Truck Driver and others, each of whom had failed. Then the tale of how he almost killed himself because of a tape dispenser, but was then saved from his own suicide by Green Chicken Curry and bubbles.
He is, let’s say, an energetic performer. He is not averse to yelling and swearing at his audience if there is good reason. He sings, he acts and tells stories. It’s all very weird, but that’s what I like. Not necessarily everyone’s cup of tea, but if you like the weird style of comedy, there is nothing better.
It’s a pantomime gone wrong; a showcase of talents that you just can’t get anywhere else.
