As we’ve come to expect from this Sydney troupe, Comicide, Work/Life Sentence is a well thought out, funny and brilliantly acted show of about 20 skits. That said, most hit the mark yet others miss by such a large margin that it leaves you wondering at what point when writing them, did they find it amusing?

The show opens with Nick Foran and Joe Stella having a dig at each other through song then rolls into Nick O’Regan pretending to be a Deer so they start well. There’s no point listing them all but some highlights were the German secret “C-Bomb” during WWII and the Apprentice Jester. We could have done without sketches about the Stroke Victim, the Australian History Paedophile and the Revenge Guy.

Everybody puts in a hearty performance with the material they have created. I must mention Jeremy Brull who acted out his parts brilliantly, yet I think he kept drawing the short straw on which skits he got to play as they tended to be the ones that missed the mark.

This review is for the “Early Shift” which lasts till the 4th of April. They then start on the 5th with the “Late Shift” and a whole new show but given the quality of this one, I’m sure they couldn’t go wrong with the next batch of skits. Even though this show is on at 8.30, it’s very much in the non-offensive PG realm and pretty user friendly. Well worth checking out.
