I got thrown this review at the last minute so I had no idea what this was about except to be at the Town Hall at 6pm. This was the best way to see Black Sheep – Glorious Baastards, no expectations and no misconceptions.

The Black sheep deliver a collection of skits, stand-up and ad parodies with some great and some cringe worthy efforts. Lisa Maza is certainly a highlight of this show with her Ballerina sketch being virtually impossible not to laugh at and her Authentic Aborigine Opera, an absolute classic. Lisa and Melodie Reynolds as the two tribal elders is hit and miss as were most of the other skits. The ad parodies were in a realm of their own which the show would have been much better without.
Cy Fahey’s stand-up interlude just didn’t quite make it. He’s new to the game and you could tell he was pretty nervous which made him bolt through his set like an express train and didn’t even pause for the laughter when it came. Given some more experience, he could get there but I guess time will tell.
Mia Stanford’s stand-up interlude took me back to Austen Tayshus and his Australiana routine. Mia based hers on birds in a nightclub. It was very well thought out and put together but lacked a bit of style and some of the delivery was missed on the audience.
On the whole this is a pretty good show. If you don’t mind being bagged for being a “Gubber” or watching Black people take the piss out of themselves, then head along and see this for something different.
