When I went see the show, I was expecting a French guy to be poking fun at the French. Or even better, a French guy poking fun at the Australians. What I wasn’t expecting was, tales of him and his escapades in a giant sea urchin suit. So that is where the show started and pretty much how the show continued. I couldn’t figure out which direction his act was going because he came across as self-deprecating, which at times didn’t seem to match the sometimes outlandish content of the show.
At times he did hit the nail on the head and came out with some amusing speculations about where comedians really get their jokes from, which type of food is so tasty he actually chose it over a one-night stand (with a woman, a point he drove home hard) and why he makes such a crap baby-sitter. Peppered with a few political digs for the more discerning of the audience, I found his random interaction with the audience (which was made up of the occasional French person) made me believe the guy had real potential.
So clearly he is new at the comedy thing and I feel that once he does find his direction and practices his show to people outside his friend circle then he could be really interesting.
So if you are into odd looking men talking in a French accent about strange stories then go and see it. My friend really enjoyed and so did the other people cackling in the front row. It just wasn’t really my glass of (red)wine.
