The Six

(Australia)

The Six are Josh Cameron, Mandy Mannion and Kate McLennan. The trio started working together in 2001, whilst writing and performing with a sketch comedy group called ‘The 5th Dementia’ Their self-titled debut went on to win the 2001 Melbourne Fringe Best Comedy Award. Following this success the show had a subsequent sell out season at the Famous Spiegeltent in the same year. The group then went on to perform a new sketch show called ‘The Hindsight Prophecies’ in the 2002 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Later that year Josh, Mandy, Kate and three others decided to form a new comedy group ingeniously titled The Six. And while three members of the group haven’t stuck, the name has and Josh, Mandy and Kate have been working as a comedy group and production company ever since.

Subsequent shows have included their self-titled debut in the 2002 Melbourne Fringe, ‘The 666 – One Hell of a Show’ and ‘Henpecked’ for 2003 and 2005 Melbourne International Comedy Festivals respectively. In 2003 and 2004 The Six were invited to perform at the Amnesty International’s ‘Stand Up for Your Rights’ at the Comedy Theatre and Hamer Hall. In 2004 The Six performed, wrote, filmed, edited and produced their own sketch/sitcom for Channel 31 called ‘The Backwards Front’. And while The Six have been doing the hard slog for 5 years now, it was their latest venture ‘The Wrong Night’ that The Six found their niche within the Melbourne Comedy scene. What started out as a night where comics performed for a gold coin donation has quickly turned into the cult hit of the circuit.
