The Bedroom Philosopher (Australia)
Self proclaimed ‘prince of folk,’ The Bedroom Philosopher AKA Justin Heazlewood is one of the most innovative and original artists on the scene today, a trailblazing hyper-wit, constantly blurring the divide between music, comedy and theatre. In 2002 the wily Tasmanian strolled through the ranks to land his own weekly segment on Triple J’s Morning Show. Utilising his University comedy days with Canberra acoustic outfit ‘The Harmonica Lewinski’s’ Justin cooked up thirty bowls of folk muesli in six months with songs like ‘My Nan Really Likes Radiohead’, ‘Golden Gaytime,’ ‘Jesus on Big Brother’ and the cult 80’s television tribute ‘Generation ABC.’ Since then, The Melbourne-Based Bedroom Philosopher has enlightened audiences at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (2005’s ‘Pyjamarama’ being his third show), Big Laugh Comedy Festival, Falls Festival, National Folk Festival and Hobart Comedy Festival. In 2004 he released his debut studio album ‘In Bed With My Doona’ on Nan and Pop Records
The intriguing first single ‘I’m So Post Modern’ was voted into Triple J’s Hottest 100, 2005, and will feature on the Hottest 100 DVD, as well as Triple J Super Requests compilation ‘Dog’s Breakfast.’ In September 2005 he supported musical comedy legends Tripod on a two week regional tour of Western Australia, as well as writing full-time for Channel 10 sketch show ‘The Ronnie Johns Half Hour.’ He is set to appear on the forthcoming DVD ‘Laughapoolooza’ alongside Gud and the Scared Weird Little Guys. The Bedroom Philosopher is the modest Folkstar putting the funk back in Simon and Garfunkle.
