Charlie Pickering
(Australia)
Charlie Pickering has become a mainstay of the Melbourne comedy scene since he began performing stand up comedy in 2000.
Charlie and long time collaborator Michael Chamberlin began Stagetime, one of Melbourne’s most influential rooms in late 2000. Stagetime celebrated several incarnations and became an iconic Melbourne comedy institution until it finale in late 2005.
Charlie has an impressive festival history, appearing in festivals both in Australia and around the world. 2002 saw Charlie team up again with Michael to produce their Piece of Wood Award winning show Boiling Point. The pair reprised this show in 2003 in Boiling Point 2, as well as joining forces with Terri Psiakis in Equal Third. In 2004 Charlie produced his critically acclaimed show Revolver and 2005 saw Charlie win praise for his show Betterman which he took to New Zealand where he won Best International Act – New Zealand Comedy Guild Awards. Charlie also took Betterman on to Edinburgh where he was nominated for the coveted Perrier Award – Best Newcomer. In 2006 Charlie returned to Melbourne stages with his Comedy Festival show Auto which earned him a nomination for the prestigious Barry Award.
Charlie has also worked widely in television and radio, with notable stints from 2001 – 2003 on Triple J radio. His television credits include appearances on Rove Live (Ten Network), The Glass House (ABC TV), Today (Nine Network) and an appearance on the 2006 Comedy Festival Gala (Ten Network).
