Ben Ellwood

(Australia)

Ben Ellwood is a comedian, hysterical hypochondriac, conspiracy theorist and human man.

Ben’s performance career took off gradually, with a few open mic night performances at Sydney open mic rooms. The next step into live comedy was in Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Raw Comedy Competition in 2006, in which he was placed as a NSW State Finalist.

More gigs followed, as did the applause [mostly forced and sympathetic applause from friends and family].

Ben is currently on rotation as part of the Comedy Channel’s Stand Up Australia TV series and is coming soon to a comedy night near you.

Ellwood’s honesty behind the mic stand and willingness to test the expectations of any audience has earned him a place as a must see for, if nothing else, a new angle. Raw, vitriolic tirades on the state of the modern world and it’s peoples, is coupled with equally truthful observations on life, sex, poverty, law and public transport.

Ellwood is a lungful of air from a desperate gasp, after drowning in a world full of derivative comedy.

Ellwood will kick off a massive 2007 with the show Painful Truths, with fellow comic James Lieutenant at Cracker Comedy Festival Sydney 2007, a show described as an on stage dichotomy of polar opposites in styles, with James being the intellectual and Ben the instinctual. James explained that “Ben is a very hard hitting, telling it like it is, blink and you’ll miss it type of comic. There is very little sitting on the fence with Ben. He’s very blunt and bold. [Whereas] I’m more slowed down and abstract. Why use two words when one will do?”

Ellwood then heads to Melbourne International Comedy Festival to perform as part of The Comedy Zone 2007.
