The Famous Spiegeltent is returning to Melbourne after a break with a fabulous line up that begins on the 12th of February and goes right through the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Season to April 24th. In the past The Spiegeltent season has been at the other end of the year, so I figured you could all do with a heads up.

All of the comedy rocking the tent will be musical comedy or musical related, bleeding into full on cabaret. Some of our favourites appearing this year will include; Tripod (who won’t be doing any of the festivals this season), Die Roten Punkte and The Kransky Sisters.
The ever reliable Spontaneous Broadway will do what is becoming a regular gig for them at the Spiegeltent and Barry Morgan (who’s debut we adored at Melbourne Fringe) will be there with his magnificent organ. Bob Down will also be swinging on down and I’d love to see him and Barry perform together, though I think we’d need to wear dark sunglasses to cope with the glare from their grins.
Mike Mcleish, another performer who oozes charisma, the star of ‘Keating! the Musical’ and recently seen in The Librarians, is doing an interesting sounding show about being reduced to working in a Theatre Restaurant. Another Keating! performer Eddie Perfect will be bringing us a brand new musical called ‘Misanthropology’ For fans of radical feminist poetry Yana Alana will be hosting the first Diva’s Choice cabaret show which happens late on Thursdays from February 17th.

If you’ve never been to The Famous Spiegeltent before, I thoroughly recommend it as a great night out in an enchanting atmosphere. The tent is not the sort of thing you would find in a camping ground or even a circus, it is much more glamorous. There are gleaming mirrors adorning highly polished wood, lots of red velvet curtains and stained glass windows that open to let in air on warm summer nights. There is a bar inside that also provides free water. Ouside there is a bigger bar and a cafĂ© in the Spiegel Garden, which will also include a games lawn and reading room – a lounge featuring newspapers from all over the world.
The performances at The Famous Spiegeltent tend to have very limited seasons, sometimes only appearing once, so book quickly.
