On Tuesday 7 September, 13 of the Nation’s sharpest school aged comics battled it out at the Class Clowns National Grand Final for their chance to be crowned most hilarious teen act in the country. This annual competition (conducted by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival) incorporates comedy workshops so that Australian High School students are encouraged to discover or refine their skills in writing and performing for the public.

The top prize was awarded to Queensland comedian Matthew Ford, who not only walked away with a novelty human-sized cheque, but also pocketed $1,000 in cash plus another $1,000 for his school, Cavendish Road High. Runners up were Ned Hirst (Daramalan College, ACT), Tasmin McFarlane and Polly Mauldlin (Melbourne Girls College, Vic), and Scratch Me Happy (Marist College, ACT).
Congratulations to all the contestants and we hope to see all of you gracing the comedy stages of Australia in years to come.
