How Aussies are being reviewed in Edinburgh

While huddled by the fire at home in wintery Australia, or huddled by the fire at a cosy comedy venue, we thought you might interested to hear about how our local performers are being reviewed by other publications in ‘sunny’ Edinburgh.

At the Australian Comedy Review we don’t award stars as part of our reviews, for many reasons. As you will see below the star ratings can vary wildly between reviewers and publications and sometimes not even reflect the nature of the review. In Edinburgh they are considered a fairly important commodity and marketing tool, with publicists keeping a note of all the stars awarded performers on large whiteboards in their office. The ratings are all out of 5 stars and I will confess that I decided not to list any negative 2 star or below reviews, but they were pretty rare anyway. You can hunt those down yourself if curious.

It’s really lovely, though not surprising, to note that most of our performers got pretty decent to glowing reviews. It would be a pretty big investment to go all the way to the other side of the world to a town that hikes the rent up to triple prices in August, with a half baked idea. Congrats to Asher Treleaven by the way, for his Best Newcomer nomination.

Note that Chortle reviewed many of the Australian shows while in Australia earlier this year, so I’ve not listed the ones that were reviewed back then. There is no way I will have been able to find all the reviews but here are the ones I’ve read over the last three weeks, in the order that I read them.
