This year as is becoming customary, hoards of Australian comedians are invading Edinburgh to try their luck at not becoming completely bankrupt. So far I’ve been able to find 42 comedy shows by or containing Australian performers at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The Barry Award winning show of 2010 Ricketts Lane won’t be going to Edinburgh this year because Heath McIvor is busy with another project for a bit, so Sammy J is going to Scotland alone and premiering a new solo show called Skinny Man Modern World. We’ll get to see it in September at our own Melbourne Fringe Festival.
There are two exciting shows that we saw in Melbourne a few years ago being revived at the Edinburgh Fringe. The first is Matthew Hardy’s show about his adoration of Veruca Salt, a character in the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory film. The really exciting part is that the actress who played the part, Julie Dawn Cole will be appearing with Matthew as she did in Melbourne. Russell Fletcher is reviving his brilliant tribute to Danny Kaye show from 2005 which he is calling ‘Jest Like Danny Kaye’. I loved this show back then and hope it’s a big success for Russell.
There are many performers in Edinburgh doing two shows this year (some even more); mostly they are performing last year’s show for those who missed it as well as a new one. Aussies who are performing two shows at the Edinburgh Fringe this year include The Axis of Awesome, Ali McGreggor (one of them is purely music), David Quirk, Sam Simmons, The List Operators, and Yianni Agisilaou.
We send our best wishes to everyone heading over to the Edinburgh Festival showcasing their world class talent. Keep healthy folks.
Also, all of our readers can look forward to reviews from Edinburgh in early August by our UK correspondent Ron.
