There are a number new rooms popping up in Melbourne and several big events are coming up this month.
Industry icon Janet A McLeod has started a Wednesday night room, Choo Choo Comedy at The Station Hotel (96 Greville St, Prahran) that will last just 6 weeks of June and early July. Janet has hand picked line ups of quality comedians such as Dave O’Neil, Jeff Green, Mat Kenneally, Michael Chamberlin, Denise Scott, Michael Williams, Charles Barrington, Andrew McClelland, Felicity Ward, Luke & Wyatt, Danny McGinlay and many, many more! The show starts at 8:30 and entry is $12/$10.
The boys from Anyone For Tennis? are launching a monthly room dedicated to musical comedy. Pure Pop Ha/Ha begins on Sunday 6th of June at Pure Pop Records (221 Barkly Street, St Kilda). Starting at 6pm and free entry to all, the opening night features music and laughs from Sammy J, Anyone For Tennis?, Andrew McClelland, Geraldine Quinn, Oliver Clark, Ryan Coffey and Claire Hollingsworth. The performance space is a little on the snug side so all should be advised to get there early to ensure entry.
Imaan along with up & comer Tshaka are starting a new fortnightly room at Red Violin (1/231 Bourke Street, Melbourne). It aims to cater for the mid range comedians, giving them 20 minute sets in which they may play and grow. The next show is on Wednesday the 9th of June, it starts at 8:30 and entry is $5.
The infamous room The Wrong Night is making a return season at The Order of Melbourne (2/401 Swanston St, Melbourne) on Tuesday June 15th. The opening show will feature Nelly Thomas, Lawrence Mooney, Geraldine Hickey, Kate McLennan, Wes Snelling & Benn Bennett and Circus Oz performer Rockie Stone throwing out the PC rule book. The show starts at 7:30, entry is $10 and subsequent nights will happen on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.
The Anarchist Guild Social Committee will be holding their 2nd birthday show on Friday 18th June at the Bella Union @ Trades Hall. See all the Committee along with special guests Adam McKenzie, Karin Muiznieks, Ben McKenzie, Neil Sinclair and more! The show starts at 7:30 and your entry prices includes admission to Mr. McClelland’s Finishing School so that you can dance the night away. The winter edition of The Quarterly Retort will be held at the Order of Melbourne on Thursday 24th of June. This mini comedy festival will feature shows by Bart Freebairn, Nick Cody, Tim & Kai, Geraldine Hickey, Adam Vincent, Ben Lomas, Emma Sachsse, Tess Waters & Cath Styles, as well as a late night all star show. Individual shows are $20 while a Festix is $30. Booking details will be announced soon on their Facebook Group.
