There are great opportunities afoot for comedians, dedicated comedy fans and aspiring writers in the west. The Wild West Comedy Festival has announced that their Supported Venue Applications are now open. In addition to this, The Groggy Squirrel are calling for applications from punters keen on comedy and writing to help us out by becoming a Western Australian correspondent.

The Wild West Comedy Festival Supported Venue Applications

The Wild West Comedy Festival will be returning in 2010 and this Festival they are moving into the Northbridge precinct with supported venues.

“Supported Venues” is a fantastic opportunity for comedians to put a comedy show on with little risk to them. Wild West Comedy Festival supply the venue, all the technical requirements, Front of House Staff and a Room Manager and the comedian’s only outlay for their production is their registration fee, technician, print collateral and Box Office split.

Supported venue application must be in by Monday November 16 to be considered. The Wild West Comedy Festival 2010 will run from the 19th to the 30th of May.

For more information about this opportunity or about the Wild West Comedy Festival check out their website. You can also contact the Programming Director, Jo Marsh, on 0406 066 991 or by email at jo@wildwestcomedy.com.au

The Groggy Squirrel calling for writers

Ever read a comedy review and thought: “This idiot knows nothing about comedy, I could do better than that”? Ever seen a comedy show with friends and gotten into a heated debate about the show afterwards (that’s possibly come to blows)? Then we need YOU!

The Groggy Squirrel are calling for applications from aspiring writers and comedy buffs in W.A., particularly the Perth area, to help the rest of the country stay informed about all things comedy in the west. This position would involve compiling listings, sourcing stories and writing reviews of shows.

We are also looking for someone to take the lead in covering the Wild West Comedy Festival next year. This position would require someone who is well organised, displays strong leadership skills and is willing to put in up to ten hours, in the lead up to, and over the course of the festival. Good written skills are a must. Past writing and editing experience, whilst helpful, is not a must as we will provide in house training for the right applicant.

The most important traits for anyone working for The Groggy Squirrel are reliability, initiative and passion.

Whilst these positions are voluntary and unpaid, they also come with a lot of comedy freebies like tickets, dvd’s, etc. This is also a great stepping stone for those wishing to take their writing careers further. Apart from that it’s great fun for anyone who wants to get involved in the comedy industry in a meaningful way.
