So, a midsummer night’s dream or a midsummer mornings panto? Only one has coffee and croissants. I did worry that the show may not have sold out this year, but it was just a large section of the audience determined not to come in until the urn had been refilled for them. So with a late start, we were off on this year’s show.

This was a very condensed version of Midsummer with, as usual, heaps of pop culture references (I’m still not sure who Letitia Dean is but apparently it’s important). There are five main cast members plus one or two surprises depending on where you sit. Puck starts off being very acrobatic but there just isn’t the time, which is why there are a few others left out of the show. What we have are the Comic Players, Helena, Demetrious, Lysander, Hermia, Letitia, Puck and Oberon.
The cast whizz through the script with all the gusto of an espresso shot, racing round the stage and through their parts manically, until the big finale where we have not one, but two, dance numbers. As with previous shows there is a bit of audience interaction and a little panto magic, but I wouldn’t want to give away too much. Just buy a ticket, get there early for the coffee and be careful where you sit!
