Back for 2011, 7pm every Sunday on SYN 90.7FM (Melbourne)

From a group of improv actors from LA, we have six ways that the world is going to end, as demonstrated by a series of sketches that can sometimes border on the offensive. The room is a cabaret bar in the basement of the Carlton Hotel, which means it wasn’t designed so everyone can see the stage, so choose your seats carefully.

The show is introduced by a elderly white haired scientist type, who also provides the introductions for each End Of The World (EOTW) scenario. The first way we’ll all go is economic and we have a family birthday party where dad has to announce the bad news. Very sick finale to this and i just hope that was fake genitalia. The second EOTW is global warming and we have the last words from the cute animals as the polar ice caps melt. Loved the jive talking dolphin in this one. Following on from this is Technology, where the nerdy scientist and his robot are trying to chat up a laydeeee. Shows why you should be nice to your machines.

Next up was the interlude, featuring a rather tasteless song sung by a duo looking suspiciously like Simon And Garfunkel. The fourth EOTW scenario was cloning/alien invasion which was dealt with very swiftly and so to the only section of the show featuring audience interaction. This, the fifth EOTW, deals with mans alienation from man, or loss of intimacy. We had a panel of three on the stage (Gay sex addict, animal lib loony and a foetus), and a host desperate to receive questions from the reluctant audience about relationship problems. After only receiving two from the fairly full room we had the payoff and so into the final scenario, war. Not too surprisingly the final EOTW ended the show with a big Broadway showtune finale which wrapped the hour up nicely.

So some good comic acting, terrible tasteless jokes and just a little audience interaction made this a fun and entertaining hour showing us how we’ve screwed up our homes.
