A man, trapped both by his past and a lot of snow, going mad very quickly. Can what’s in the box save him? Chester James once wrote a book, the Nullabor Gunslinger. It became a bestseller and a blockbuster motion picture. Now he wants to escape and write something new but everyone wants a sequel. Hiding away in the seed bank in Svalbard (where there are stores of all known plants in case of a global disaster), he finds friendship with a talking moose head, a budgie and a polar bear. There was an ice woman but we won’t discuss that.
There are some very good songs and some moments of heartbreak as we learn Chesters story and how he came to be in this desolate place. The centrepiece of the story, an unopened box from his wife, contains all his hopes and fears. Will he open the box before the end and what will it contain.
The acting is superb and the story one of emotional breakdown and loss is conveyed without losing any of the humour in the situation. There are a number of special guest voice overs during the show. See if you can tell who they belong to (I recognised about half). The show only runs for about 45 minutes but you will leave with a teary smile on your face. Excellent.
