It’s a rare joy to see a show where everything about it just works. Xavier Michelides’ “The Post Apocalyptic User’s Guide” is one of those amazing experiences.

The User’s Guide is a collection of character-based sketches based around the various ways in which the apocalypse could come. Xavier has a masterful grasp of characterisation, and every character is pitch perfect. From the hack comic MCing in the wake of alien invasion or the survivalist training video every moment of every piece is packed full of laughs.
I’ve been told that Xavier’s show changes a great deal from night to night, with the various characters being given more or less stage time based on the initial reactions of the audience. It’s very tempting to make a second visit to see this in action – though I’d be equally happy to just sit through the exact same show a second time. It’s just that good.
This is the show that Xavier has been suggesting at for the past few festivals, and it’s extremely satisfied that he’s finally nailed it. This is pure comedy at its best.
