Sam Simmons latest comedy festival effort “The Net starring Sandra Bullock” is something to behold. This show is in a league, and world, of its own. It’s a one-man theatrical, musical comedy masterpiece that deserves to get this underground favourite noticed by the masses. Sam had reviewers dropping their notes in hysterics (no, it wasn’t me, I’m more professional) and I even noticed a few well-known comics lining up to see him.

The show is an over the top, dramatisation/hilarification of Sam Simmon’s 1995; A time where Sam was 17 years old and working at Coles, “90210” was on the telly and “Coolio” was top of the charts.

Armed with a unique and powerful narrative style, an easel of crudely drawn and random illustrations, an epic and hilarious collection of songs and some clever lighting; Sam draws you into his own little planet from the second he appears on stage. The show revolves around the people that surrounded Sam working at Coles within the Marion Shopping Centre, his hilarious adaptation of these people is just a apart of what makes this show work.

At first, this seems like a completely random re-telling of a twisted teens’ messed up most inner thoughts and desires, but this is much more than that. A story told with the ups and downs of a summer blockbuster, characters described with the depth of a complex novel, and a dramatic soundtrack to boot; this show is something you wish you had on DVD to watch over and over again. Remember, this is a one man comedy act were talking about.

Sam is an all round funny guy who has put a great amount a thought into his craft. As a one-man show, he is fantastic, and you’ll walk out wanting more. This show just screams “TV series” and to my delight, I discovered Sam has a series due for screening this year entitled “The Urban Monkey”, soon to be seen on ABC. So go see him so you can say you knew him before he was cool.

Sam makes the mundane, insane. He’s totally unique, and totally bonkers. This is a definite must see of the festival.
