Richard McKenzie’s “A String in the Tale” is a tribute to his father, Bill, who sadly passed away last year. Pulling together some of his many stories about his dad’s adventures, this best of show is a funny and at times touching collection of tales.

Richard has a real technique as a storyteller, with a great turn of phrase and a lot of passion in his delivery, and his father has been a constant source of material. From contracting cholera as a tourist in the trenches of the Somme to meeting some of the most famous people on the planet, Bill’s life is a constant source of hard to believe tales.
There’s a lot of old material in this show that Richard has polished and collated into a collection of well tested and perfected comedy. It’s great to hear all this accumulated gold worked together, and the new stories of discoveries after Bill’s passing are magically fascinating.
Richard has put together a celebration of his father without ever once falling into the self-indulgence that a family biography could entail. This show is probably the last chance to hear these amazing stories and discover the amazing life of Bill. It’s a pleasure to know him, even if just through the stories he’s left for his sons.
