Kent Valentine’s “How To Love Everyone (Even the Arseholes)” is basically the story of moving from Australia to London and all the extra conflict that such a move entails. More than that, however, it’s a genuine exploration of what it takes to find a connection with the people around you.

After opening the show with some general banter about flyering and some well thought-out, if slightly generic air travel material, Kent lays out his basic philosophy on arsehole-ism. Exploring how he’s dealt with many forms of conflict, from simple misunderstandings to almost being embroiled in racial violence, Kent shares a fascinating his life view.

Kent is an instantly likable performer, and it’s hard to believe that even the biggest of arseholes could want any conflict with him. His effortless delivery and constant excitement keep the audience constantly involved. In particular, his passion for Star Wars is infectious, but never alienating – even for the girl who thought that the Jedi were “those little furry creatures”.

Kent has obviously thought a great deal on the topic of conflict and his utterly engaging storytelling skills make the exploration of those thoughts immensely entertaining. This show manages to find that perfect balance between being easy to digest and providing sustenance for the brain.
