Back for 2011, 7pm every Sunday on SYN 90.7FM (Melbourne)

Australian born Jim Jeffries has made his home and his name in the United Kingdom. Well-known in international circles and with an HBO special in the can, he’s come home to give Australia a taste of the comedy that has made him a success overseas.

Jeffries’ tour poster advises the show is not for the easily offended and even quotes a warning from the UK’s Christian Voice that Jeffries is “sick and repellent”. So don’t say you haven’t been warned – this show is not for the faint hearted.

So exactly how offensive is Jeffries? Well, first up, he swears. A lot. It’s not an exaggeration to say that each sentence comes with at least three free “fucks” and if you’re not a fan of the C word then this is not a show for you. Recently The Sunday Age suggested that if you’re a fan of potty-mouths you might like to catch Reginald D Hunter. If Reginald D Hunter’s mouth is of the potty variety then Jim Jeffries is sporting an industrial strength porta-loo. For miners. Who have been on a diet of backed-beans for six months.

And then there’s his subject matter. How far does Jeffries take it? How long have you got? There are jokes about rubber vaginas, dwarfs and fat chicks. There are stories about disabled people, his overweight mother and a predatory scout leader. The Christians cop a serve but don’t fret – he has a fair crack at the Jews and the Muslims as well. You want more? He’s got more. How about dick cancer, having sex with sluts and licking arseholes?

So now you know he’s provocative and you’ve got a handle on his subject matter. If that all sits ok with you – and it certainly sat well with last night’s audience – then you’ll love this show. Jeffries is a great storyteller, he builds light and shade into the show and his jokes will stay with you. He is completely unapologetic about his style of comedy and sticking to his guns had definitely worked out well for him. Check him out if you dare – just don’t bring your Nan.
