Back for 2011, 7pm every Sunday on SYN 90.7FM (Melbourne)

With a history that reaches back to 1996, and as far away as New York City, few have not heard of the play The Vagina Monologues. Eve Ensler’s play, based on interviews with over two hundred women, has been described as confrontational, empowering and humourous. As is the nature of a play such as this, it has also courted controversy in it twelve year history.

Melbournian will get the chance to decide for themselves this February when The Vagina Monologues- comes to the _National Theatre in St Kilda. This performance features a cast including Anne Phelan, (Guys and Dolls, Prisoner and SeaChange), George McEncroe, (MIX 101FM’s Two Women and a Metro), Rock Cabaret star Geraldine Quinn, and D-Cupperty’s Louise Steel plus a strong cast of actresses.

The performance will be staged as part of V-Day, a day dedicated to raising awarness of the fight to stop domestic violence against women. The V-Day 2009 Spotlight Campaign, the global initiative, focuses on women from The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Women and young girls from the DRC are a target for rape and have been systemically brutalised and abused.
