The first thing that you will notice as you enter this room is that you are on stage and everyone is looking at you, so DO NOT come late as there is no-where to hide once you step through that curtain. The second thing is that the room is small and very hot. There is a jug of water and glasses on a shelf and Wendy was happy to serve any audience member who requested a glass.

Wendy is a 30-something Scottish single mum who started the show by playing an audio clip of Donald Rumsfeld making a famous speech about knowns and unknowns and explaining that this was how the show was born. In the show Wendy tries to demonstrate how she learned some of her unknown unknowns by giving us tales from her life. Does this make sense? I think Wendy explained it better than it sounds on paper.

Suffice to say, during the hour we hear stories of Wendy’s upbringing, how she was so cruel to her sister (who now runs Ben & Jerrys UK), her marriage, her kids, divorce and dating. Rather than just telling stories in a linear fashion, Wendy has a habit of wandering around each story with lots of little segues into her job as a voice over performer and things in the media that upset her and more stories about her kids. We also have a quick explanation about the flyer and how it was inspired by Breakfast at Tiffanys, why it looks the way it does and the problems associated with choosing a picture that perhaps looks better than on normally does.

Wendy is a confident and pleasant performer who covers a good range of subjects about her family and personal life. Many of the stories show Wendy is perhaps not the best of lights, but we enjoy the journey through her slightly warped viewpoint on life. And from some of the tales she told of her children, I think they may be growing up just like her. Well recommended.
