Back for 2011, 7pm every Sunday on SYN 90.7FM (Melbourne)

This is a free show put on by five northern women. The venue is the basement in what is supposed to be the most haunted pub in Scotland, but there was nothing scary in this performance. The women have a show that is a series of linked sketches about a group of women living their normal lives.

The show opens with a loud and rude sketch about female empowerment and togetherness (very rude indeed). We have tales about dieting clubs (in which speaking up against slimming proves to be a good thing), which leads to the first in a series of video recordings for sadlonelybastard.com, a new dating agency. From here we follow a group of friends as they embark upon dates, a little stalking and finally a wedding set of scenes where it looks rather grim for the happy couple.

The sketches were funny and well acted. They may not have been cutting edge or startlingly new, but they entertained the audience and, apart from the very high volume where everyone was talking at once, I had no problems with the audio. For the money (a donation is appreciated after the show), this is a highly recommended and very entertaining show. I’m sure they’ll be back and making us pay next year so see them now and buy them a pint to thank them. Oh and it’s the perfect show for hens nights.
