The Comedy Hour
Like its elder cousin, the UK’s BBC, Australia’s own ABC has just announced it’s own campaign to search throughout the rank and file to find some of Australia’s next comedy stars, to feature in it’s new show The Comedy Hour to be broadcast later this year.

Launched live today on ABC Victoria and ABC Tasmania by “Andy Muirhead”:comic and “Adam Hills”:comic, the national broadcaster has announced a competition for budding radio writers to participate in a ten week long series of one-hour broadcasts.
The show will be broken down into two half hours, with the first half focussing on a current affairs type comedy. At the moment the format for the second half is oepn and will depend on the material submitted. According to the website It’ll be great entertainment, as well as an opportunity for new comedy writers to get their work out there. There’ll be a focus on sketch comedy and gags, but half of the show will be set aside for a brand new format, be it mockumentary, narrative comedy, comedy essay, comedy quiz show or, er…something completely new. No joke is too weird, no sketch too odd.
The ABC is looking for three different kinds of writer, those who can write topical jokes, those who specialise in sketch writing, and those who can write features/comedy essays/etc. At this stage the program will be broadcast throughout Victoria and Tasmania. Entries are open to current performers and writers as well as those who’ve never created comedy professionally. Entries close at the end of May so be quick.
Entries are open from May 8th to May 30th. Visit the ABC “website”:http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2008/05/05/2235452.htm for further details and entry details
