With a stage setup that consists of a whiteboard and a stack of reference books, Yianni’s Maybe You’d Like To Teach The Class is quite clearly going to be a bit of a nerdy show. Setting up the schoolroom environment, Yianni takes his audience through the experiences of both student and teacher.

Talking through his childhood experiences as the class smart-ass and his teardown of unfortunate teachers, Yianni examines the value of education and the things he wished he’d learnt in school. Through an examination of the language and other classroom topics, Yianni seeks to create a classroom for finding the truth.

The schoolroom theme is also used to jump off to a variety of other topics including relationships, advertising and some hilarious material about using material as appliances. This extra material is blended perfectly into the show, with the off-topic diversions only becoming apparent when audience is directed back to the main thread of the show.

The allocation of House Points for audience participation was pure genius, creating a great bond with the audience. At the beginning of the show, Yianni had to search furtively for audience response, but as the show progressed, a deluge of answers would spring forth, with cheers coming from fellow team members whenever points were allocated.

Yianni has a boundless energy on stage, with an ever-present infectiously cheeky grin and constant enthusiasm. His highly literary and accessible humour had the audience eating out of his hands.

Yianni has added two extra shows on April 11 & 12 at 10pm. Visit the Comedy @ Trades website for bookings and further details
