The Storytellers’ Club
The Storytellers’ Club nestles into the dark corner of festival’s Saturday nights to bring together comedians and punters to share stories. The brainchild of comedian Sarah Bennetto, it’s the perfect way to wind down after a big night out at the fest.

Sarah Bennetto opened up the night with a few short stories and her tale of unexpectantly being invited to a luncheon at the palace. This was followed up by storytelling regular James Dowdeswell and then a brilliant fairytale from Yianni. Yianni’s work was a hilariously self-referential and absurdist tale that was chock full of laughs. Josie Long then rounded out the first section of the show with a rapid fire of short bits and pieces told in her own endearing style.
The Short Story competition gives the audience an opportunity by writing five word stories on a theme. This week was ‘Worst Gift Ever Received’, and had a bunch of great entries. The night was then closed out with musical stories by Casey Bennetto and then Gavin Osborne.
Shows like The Storytellers’ Club are what make the comedy festival so special. To bring all this talent together into the one room and give them the freedom to explore something so unique is what the festival is all about. This will definitely be cemented into my Saturday night schedule for the rest of the fest.
