2008 Melbourne Comedy Festival Reviews

Every Film Ever Made

This action-packed stage show has already played out seasons at the Melbourne and Adelaide Fringe Festivals – and boy does it show. Every Film Ever Made is one hour of tight, non-stop energy, great laughs and good clean fun.

From the home-made, self-styled Raiders-inspired “opening credits” Tegan Higginbotham, Robby Lloyd and Adam McKenzie had the opening night audience laughing it up at their physical comedy skills, surround-sound effects and over-the-top impersonations. To ensure they use their time wisely the spunky cast do some quick impersonations that cover genres and decades. Who knew a single grunt could convey so much? Apparently John Wayne did.

With some gentle digs at bad acting (they’re looking at you Billy Zane), a few quick dance routines (hello Bollywood) and a couple of movie mash-ups (The Wizard of Oz meets The Gremlins) these guys cover a lot of ground. There are no flat spots in this energetic show but still there is plenty of space for improvisation and shout-outs to the crowd. The trio’s on-stage chemistry is dynamite and they are seriously oozing with talent – and sweat (dress light, the cool change is yet to hit Trades Hall).

A fellow reviewer had one bone to pick, “Where was Bladerunner?” OK, so maybe not every film ever made features but you will be sure to know most of them and just in case you don’t they’ll give you enough information to help you along. Their nod to Woody Allen is worth the ticket price alone. This show has broad appeal; take your friends and bring your own popcorn.
