Al Pitcher’s Idiot Wind is a collection of observational stand-up held centered around doing or saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Covering ill fated art openings, childhood romance and meeting celebrities, Al makes light of a surprising variety of topics.

Al is a bit of ‘blokey’ comedian, but without the aggressiveness and casual sexism that description would normally suggest. While the tone is familiar, the ego is left at the door, and instead we are left with just a warm, manly friendliness. He’s got an every-man appeal, but without necessarily stooping to the lowest common denominator (which isn’t to say there isn’t the occasional cheap gag).

The audience on the night really pushed Al to think on his feet, interjecting hoots and giving great response to any questions directed to the group but shutting down completely when Al tried to interact with them directly. Al constructed from this a grand conspiracy by the audience to mess with him, and the jovial conflict added another level of fun to the show. Al’s questioning as to the cause of the loud rumbling that interrupted the show towards the end (from the thunderstorm outside) led to some great conflict that made the night uniquely hilarious.

This isn’t a show that’s going to strain your brain, but it’s definitely a show that anybody can enjoy. Al is the type of comedian that is likely to find himself staring at you from inside the television in short order.
