Lawrence Mooney’s Where To? follows his life as a taxi driver. Taking a world that is often just the butt of comedic one-liners, Lawrence gives an incredibly interesting and hilarious insight into the world of Taxis.
Sitting in his disembodied taxi seat, Lawrence provides a romantic view of the taxi drivers. Taking us through his childhood exposure and fascination with taxis, Lawrence’s passion is instantly compelling. Sharing the characters he meets through his training and his life on the road, Lawrence doles out jokes and advice for both drivers and passengers.
Lawrence has a great sense of theatre. His tales of drunken passengers, quirky cab owners and other drivers are delivered a sense of grandeur that draws the audience into every character. The impact of every joke is magnified by this sense that we are reliving these moments with him.
This is a superbly well executed performance that provides a great showcase for Lawrence’s enormous talent. The picture that he paints is optimistic and romanticised, and it’s difficult to resist the lure of his world.
