Ratings for the APEC edition of The Chaser’s War on Everything, which aired last night, have exceeded expectations, championing an ABC win over the commercial channels in the 8:30pm – 10pm timeslot.
The now much publicised APEC security stunt which saw several members of the comedy team “The Chaser”:comic arrested last week, propelled the show onto massive figures of 2.3 million viewers nationwide. Other shows on the ABC’s Wednesday comedy line up also reaped the benefits of this ratings boom. The “Adam Hills”:comic hosted Spicks and Spekcs which preceded “The Chaser” recorded it’s highest ever figures with 1.65 million viewers, whilst Chris Lilley’s Summer Heights High hit 1.4 million.
Before the screening it was reported that the ABC received over two hundred objections to the ‘stunt’. Unusually, the ABC received also nearly two hundred responses which approved of the incident. Reports have stated that callers to talkback radio sided predominantly in favour of “The Chaser”.
