Opening night (afternoon) and in a very small theatre sees a group of comedians tackling Joe Orton’s classic comedy What The Butler Saw with mixed success. I put a lot of the fluffed lines down to first night nerves, as they didn’t detract from the show itself and the action certainly was at a break-neck pace.

The stage iself seemed too small and deep for the show, and everyone ended up being crowded in the centre of the stage or around the props for much of the show. Still, with these limitations, this was very well performed and the audience definitely enjoyed themselves.
The actors themselves are a young troupe and certainly are brave putting on such a popular play, but they pull it off very well. The only other point is that Dr Prentice should at least have some more grey hair and a few lines for his part to be convincing (especially in the final denouement).
So, if you haven’t seen this play before or enjoy a bawdy farce, then book your tickets now as it’s in a very small room and only on for a short time.
