I chose this show as I have a friend who is obsessed with shoes and it was an obsession I have a lot of difficulty in understanding (possible due to my unfeasibly large feet and total lack of fashion sense). Thus I was hoping for a lecture on why women become obsessed by something that is both expensive and uncomfortable.

What The Importance of Shoes is actually about is the story of two couples, their interconnecting relationship with footwear being the link. We learn that one of the males works for a shoe shop and the other is a chiropodist. Strangely we never find out what the women do. They seem to be defined entirely by their footwear.
The relationships both start on a fairly even keel but then the gradually turn into bitterness and recrimination and I think it is probably like Sex & the City or Desperate Housewives toward the end as both couples fracture and the shoes are taken away.
If you love shoes or love someone who has a large collection, this is going to be right up your ally. One last point – women always say they buy shoes to make them happy. Certainly wasn’t working too well here.
