I saw The Butler Did It show last year and enjoyed it so I was looking forward to see how they had updated the farce for this years season. If my memory serves me, the opening introductory song and closing number are both new and help to draw us into the era of the late 20’s in an English country house.
The action starts with the master of the house being murdered while his family are arriving to discuss his inheritance. Everyone is a suspect and skeletons fly out of closets with gay abandon, not to mention a lot of very dubious jokes and a elderly female busybody amatuer detective called Fanny Marbles.
The players in this years production do an excellent job of delivering their corny lines and hamming up the acting a treat. My only disappointment is that Fifi is not as sexy as last year (but she is much more evil, so that’s some sort of compensation). The house was full for the show and the show ran ten minutes longer than advertised. Excellent way of spending an hour for crime lovers of all ages.
