Back for 2011, 7pm every Sunday on SYN 90.7FM (Melbourne)

Psister Psycho is performed in the Caves, which are actually vaults under bridge supports for one of the main roads. The room is low, cold and rather smelly so claustrophobes are advised to keep well away. They are also purported to be haunted, which only adds to the creepiness of this show.

The show itself is a musical about a young girl in a remote country town. On their 21st birthdays, according to tradition, the eldest girls of each family are sent to the local nunnery and never seen again. Martha, the star of the show (though not the title character), has just turned 21 and is now told of her fate. When she arrives at the nunnery, she is informed by the sisters that the nunnery has a purpose not laid down by the Good Book.

The girls are slaves to an evil Psister Psycho, who really lives up to her name, and the job of the girls is to build arms and other military equipment (including the biggest gun in the world). Can Martha stop Psister Psycho from carrying out her evil plans to destroy the world? Can she solve the puzzles of the sisters and a missing child? Will anyone make it out of the nunnery alive?

This is a very enjoyable romp with a number of catchy songs and dances, lots of very silly accents and some very good singing and dancing. Just don’t sit next to the speakers (front sides) as the music is amplified and the singers aren’t so you may miss some of the dialogue. The audience was very expressive in their enjoyment (and in being made honorary nuns for a short time) and I can recommend this show for those who like to see sexy, psychotic nuns hell bent on world domination.
