Jihad – The Musical is a really fun and boisterous production from the start to the finish. The cast all played their parts with panache and their singing was excellent. The songs themselves were catchy though I would not recommend singing any of them as you leave the theatre.

The story starts in Afghanistan (Jalalabad, We Love You) and we see a CNN reporter trying to get footage of the evil Muslims. We then meet Saeed and his sister Shazia. Shazia has been accepted into the Sorbonne and Saeed will have to make it on his own. Enter the burka-clad Nuur (I’m guessing with the spelling of the names). Nuur persuades Saeed to come with her to America where he is to be trained as a martyr (he thinks he’s a gardener). We meet some crossdressing customs inspectors at the airport and then are whisked to the training camp. Meanwhile Shazia is be chased by the French professor at the sorbonne who sings a song that no true Frenchman will appreciate. she is trying to contact Saeed but he’s under the spell of the terrorists. So shazia decides to make a resuce mission for her brother. Will she be in time or will the button be pressed? Will Foxy from CNN get the story she needs to save her career? Will Saeed’s love for Nuur last past the explosions? Most catchy songs from the show are the Jihad Jive and I Wanna Be Like Osama.

Top marks to the cast and writers for a hilarious retelling of a scary subject.
