There are the seeds of a very good show contained within Janice Phayre’s new show With Occasional Showers. The main premise of the show is that Janice has heard that the friends you have are a mirror to your own personality, so she has asked her friends to write about how they see her.
The problems started when the show previous overran by 20 minutes and then Janice appeared to be distracted by the audience too often. She explained the show and started to give some examples but then seemed to wander off and forget where she was in the show. I’m hoping that this is just early season nerves and that she will settle down into the structure that she show needs.
On the positive side, she is a friendly and attractive person with a good delivery and there are some excellent lines within the show. Plus she has one of the best big props to finish the show off.
It was interesting to see a show being created but I can only encourage people to come if they like to see the evolution of a show (or come later in the fest when it should have settled).
