Back for 2011, 7pm every Sunday on SYN 90.7FM (Melbourne)

The show is set at the wedding of Anne and Steve. We will be meeting three characters and learning a bit too much about their lives for our liking. The first character, Debbie, greets us as we arrive and explains that she is a wedding planner but normally for gay people. For any Aussies she is supposed to be Australian but sounded more like a Kiwi to me. Not that the poms would notice, eh? Still it was a funny routine and didn’t outlast its time. The next character is a campanologist who tells us tales of the bells, plus discussing the details of her little bell-ringing troupe who will be playing at the wedding. The final character, Blodwen, is a person I have encountered before. She has told a lie at work about having a boyfriend, which has spiraled out of control until she has resorted to the desperate measures she is about to use on an unsuspecting audience. I was the one dragged out at the finale and I must admit that I didn’t mind a bit.

Isabel shows some excellent performance skills as she inhabited the characters on the stage and the audience really got into the swing of the occasion, with various members being allowed to help out in various scenes. If you want to see a good character performance telling a story that many of us will recognise, then I can heartily recommend this show. I do feel guilty that I didn’t mention I was the reviewer after the ceremony though.
