Andrew McClelland’s Mix Tape takes place is the Wee room at the Gilded Balloon and was, I believe, where they hosted the world extreme sauna championships. Seriously, take a drink or a fan along.

Andrew McLelland has been called cherubic, cuddly, the man who, if you lightly poked with a stick, would just giggle and other things I just made up. He is a cheerful and friendly man and makes the audience feel welcome right from the point where he takes your ticket at the door. He starts with a little dance and explains the concept of mix tapes (MP3 playlists now?) and how they were once used in the distant past (the 70s) to woo a loved one with one’s eclectic yet charming taste in music.

We have the tracks from Andrew’s tape plus a story as to why each one is there and, by the end of the show, the audience is so relaxed that the sing-a-long is virtually unanimous and quite tuneful.

We got a half-time break to cool down, and the best part for me was the little electronic blurb at the start of the show, which in my youth used to be on cassettes as a Dolby check. So for anyone wishing to go down memory lane to a youth of creating your own music, or any lovers of music and comedy, this is an excellent way to spend an hour.
