This was a good, though not exceptional, version of this popular play. There were a few new sequences added to the show involving the Men In Black, which almost worked. The plant was human based, as opposed to the overly complicated mechanical versions and looked effective enough. The acting for the main characters was good though apart from Audrey and Seymour, there was nowhere near enough passion or believability being shown. Audrey was the stand-out performer for this show as she sang with passion and used effective movements to enhance her emotion. Seymour, while a good singer and actor, did lapse into just saying the words at times. The plant had an excellent jazz voice which caused problems as she kept wanting to play with the beat, something that just won’t work when they are using a backing tape. The play is short with some pruning (sorry) having been done to the script but it is an enjoyable 70 minutes and worth a look.
