Sam Bowring’s latest festival show explores all creatures great and small. As long as your definition of ‘great’ is no larger than a dog.
Sam’s humour bounces from clever observations to absurdist little stories and provides a great deal of easy to laugh at material. Starting from the very beginning, when his parent’s named him Sam after their cat, the majority of the stories come from his time in what he has dubbed ‘The Plague House’ and Sam’s trip to Thailand. Dealing with a variety of animals from his own pets to interlopers into his life such as bees and baby spiders, Sam’s likable manner takes you into his life and his relationship with animals.
While many comedian’s with a themed show such as this either have to shoehorn in extra material or twist their material to fit the theme, Sam has managed to fill his show wall to wall with animal based gold. Either he’s quite prolific, or he’s just really obsessed with animals.
Sam is a really accessible comic, but clever enough to be universally appealing without having to resort to the lowest common denominator.
