Fox K is Looking for Emily

Fox K’s Looking for Emily is all about asking “What If?”. What if that one thing had gone differently, how would it change your life? In Fox’s case, it’s asking what would happen if he hadn’t lost touch with his beach house girlfriend of his youth.

Starting out with a nice little video depicting Fox’s 31st birthday and some of the motivations behind trying to find a search for a different life, Fox then hits the stage. He takes us through his childhood with Emily, the circumstances that separated them and how his search began.

Fox goes off on tangents of stand-up at the slightest provocation, weaving some really solid material on topics ranging from his abusive relationship with Kentucky Fried Chicken to Myspace and disciplining children. Diversions into other aspects of Fox’s life are also interesting, especially his story of getting fired from the Aquarium.

The venue is a little bit of a weird one in that there is a bar right next door to the stage room without even a door to keep out the noise. This wasn’t really too much of a problem on the Wednesday night while I was there, but might be problematic if the bar got busier.

Fox is a great storyteller, and his quest to find Emily really draws you in. At times he seems unsure about telling a story when he feels he should just be funny, but for the most part he get the balance right and gives you a great show that keeps you hanging for the next piece of the puzzle.

Looking for Emily runs Tuesday through Sunday until April 29th. See the comedy festival website for bookings and further details.
