Die Roten Punkte have been going for a while but this is the first time I’d seen them perform live. I’d read reviews written by my compatriots on this very website and I was unsurprised at their show going by what I’d read, reaching back over the course of a year.

This is an enjoyable show which, on its opening night, seemed to attract an appreciative crowd with many audience members who seemed familiar with the material. Hailing from Berlin “Die Roten Punkte” is the self proclaimed “Best Band In The World” and they in turn show themselves to be immensely fallible in the funniest way possible. This show does suffer just small amount from the ‘one trick pony’ syndrome, but it does have plenty of value throughout the performance to keep punters well entertained.

Most of the humour value of this show comes from the interplay between the two characters, Otto and Astrid, overlayed onto the screeching rock parody they play with. The characterisations are both very good with Otto particularly standing out as Astrid’s gormless and jealous brother.

Being the opening night there were several glitches with microphones and the like but it was these moments that actually provided some of the funniest moments, with the pair coming in with some very clever ad libbs to cover these gaps. Infact I’m not entirely sure that these moments shouldn’t be built into the show.

“Die Roten Punkte” is a highly enjoyable romp that I doubt would disappoint many punters.
