One of the best value for money shows I think you’ll find at the festival – four comedians, from three different continents, for the price of one. This year, the show features a great mix of comedians who compliment each other’s styles, including MC Andrew Stanley and Maeve Higgins from Ireland, Asher Treleaven from Australia and Eddie Ifft from the USA.
MC, Andrew Stanley helped get the crowd fired up with his energetic stand up and effectively kept the momentum of the show going in between each act. Among other humorous stories, he explains why one should not opt to get a haircut immediately after a dentist appointment.
Melbournian Asher Treleaven, whom I found refreshingly original, was first up. Given that each comedian has less than 20 minutes on stage, Asher chose two short pieces to perform. He put a whole new spin on a Mills and Boon novel then displayed the most imaginative use of a plastic garbage bag I’ve seen in some time, in an exhibition of a Rock Eisteddfod style dance routine.
The completely stationary and sweetly spoken style of Maeve Higgins further adds to the variety of acts offered in this show. She enlightens us to the often crazy thoughts that go on in her head.
The final act was American, Eddie Ifft, who it appears, is not afraid of offending anybody, but does recall one time he couldn’t help but go a little too far. He tells of his adventures in Amsterdam and how to get your non-violent revenge on just about anyone.
All in all, a well rounded show, that will have you looking out for these comedians names for full length shows of their own in the future.
Best of the Edinburgh Festival is on Tuesdays through Sundays until April 29th. See the comedy festival website for bookings and further details.
