2007 Melbourne Comedy Festival Reviews

Andy Muirhead in Silly Rabbit

You may recognise him as the host of ABC TV show, ‘The Collectors’, but Andy Muirhead started off as a stand up comedian and returns to Melbourne in 2007 for his second solo show, “Silly Rabbit.” After a quick bit of Tassie related stand up and audience interaction at the beginning, he jumps into the premise of the show, which is talking about the worst thing he has ever done – as well as anybody else who feels like relieving some pent up guilt.

Over the course of the festival, Andy is creating a list of the worst things certain audience members have done and ranking them in order of debauchery. As it can be a touchy subject, he asks for volunteers and people were more than willing to participate in the relaxed and friendly mood that Andy had created.

Andy spends much time going through confessions from previous nights, but he may have to extend the length of his show while the list continues to grow, as it is one of the strongest segments. The list contains guilty acts ranging from a 14 year old who lied to his parents, to a man who was caught cheating by his mother.

He also talks about how he is starting to feel old now that he’s an ‘over 30’ and reveals how his great city of Hobart may be responsible for the imminent death of the heir to the Denmark throne. However, it is the story of how he came to discover that pigeons don’t bounce that will no doubt stay with you well after the show is over.

A grumpy toy rabbit named Colin, introduces each segment of the show by way of pre-recorded video footage. Colin continually insults Andy but he should be careful because one man in the audience on the night I attended (on Easter Sunday no less!) owned up to running over and killing a rabbit…on purpose.

This is a feel good show full of frequent laughs that will also have you thinking about the worst think you’ve ever done. Attending this show could be good therapy.

Silly Rabbit runs from Tuesday till Sunday until the 27th April. For full details check out the comedy festival website
